The Durant Lions Club is one of the oldest chartered Lions Clubs in the United States. The Durant Lions Club meets Mondays at noon at the Sidewalk Cafe on the Southeastern Oklahoma State University campus. We welcome visitors and would love for you to visit us. Each week speakers bring programs that enlighten members about programs and services in our community and state.
In Durant, our Lions Club is making an impact on our community by supporting programs to recycle eyeglasses, provide eyeglasses for those needing assistance, providing scholarships to local students to attend college, and supporting a number of programs to serve our community. For about the last 12 years, the Durant Lions Club in cooperation with the Marines Toys for Tots program has provided thousands of toys to families with children at Christmas time. In 2010, over 1500 Bryan County youth of economic challenged families received Christmas gifts from the Lions program we call the Lions Toy Box. See the Lions Toy Box for more information.
The Durant Lions Club is part of the Lions Club International which is an international network of 1.3 million men and women in 205 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world. Known for working to stop preventable blindness, Lions participate in a vast variety of projects important to their communities. These projects range from cleaning up local parks to providing supplies to victims of natural disasters. Since 1917 the association of Lions clubs has provided millions of people with the opportunity to give something back to their communities.
